Chone Figgins benched for fighting & losing it towards manager Don Wakamatsu

The Seattle Mariners woeful season continues as they sit 37-60 going into tonight’s game with the Red Sox. They have the fourth worst record in the MLB, sitting with the real bottom feeders Arizona, Pittsburgh, Houston and Baltimore as the only teams with under 40 wins at this point of the season.

It’s even more embarrassing for Seattle because they were expected to contend this year, coming off a a surprising 87-75 record last season. This year they went onto the free agency market to help bolster the lineup signing Chone Figgings to a four year $36 million contract. His contract put the Mariners at #5 in the MLB in payroll, that is why its so inexcusable; whereas the other bottom feeders weren’t expected to be in contention, let alone 20+ games under .500.

Figgins has been pathetic at the plate hitting .226; so you would expect him to at bare minimum play great defense if he is struggling swinging the bat.

Unfortunately that was not the case last night on a play where he didn’t put in a full effort, this angered manager Wakamatsu, who proceeded to take him out of the game. Here is what happened:

My thoughts:

First Bradley lost it, then Griffey passed out in the clubhouse, now Figgins loses it. Who’s next to create a scene on this pathetic Mariners team?
