Jeff Meszaros: MMA Writer

Jeff “Wombat” Meszaros began writing about mixed martial arts in the 1990s, posting his early UFC predictions on internet discussion forums. With his unusual style of commentary, it wasn’t long before his writing caught the attention of a growing base of fans and he began covering the sport for various newspapers, websites and magazines. He has since been published in Real Fighter, Tapout, Extreme Fighter, DXL, Full Contact Fighter and MMA Universe as well as featured on websites like MMAringreport.com, Fcfighter.com, Grapplearts.com and Cagewarriors.com. He has also worked as both a ring announcer and play-by-play announcer for a variety of events including RAW Combat, Elite Fighting Championships, Ultimate Cage Wars and Xtreme Fighting Challenge, appearing on The Score and The Fight Network on Canadian television. A former mixed martial arts writer for BodogFIGHT, Jeff also hosted Full Contact Fighter radio for a number of years, interviewing the top fighters in the sport and covering events around the world.
In addition to his English degree from Simon Fraser University and Journalism Diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Jeff has 25 years of martial arts experience. He holds black belts in Brazilian jiu jitsu, hapkido and taekwondo as well as a brown belt in judo and an orange belt in kung fu.
“I have met most of the top fighters in the world and I’ve had the pleasure to practice with a few of them,” he says. “I might say some crazy stuff but I have a lot of respect for anyone who trains hard and then tests themselves in competition.”
Jeff lives in Vancouver, B.C., Canada where he spends his time teaching English and running a Brazilian jiu jitsu club.
