Venus Williams was born on June 17, 1980 and is a former World No. 1 ranked female tennis player. She is currently ranked World No. 55 as of June 18, 2012. Venus Williams became the World No. 1 for the first time on February 25, 2002, becoming the first black woman to achieve this feat during the Open Era.

Venus Williams was born in Saginaw, Michigan, but her family moved to the city of Compton in Los Angeles. Venus Williams and her younger sister Serena Williams started playing tennis at the age of five. Their father remains as the sister’s coach to this day.
