Joe Flacco Thinks “He’s the Best”

Right after the 2011-12 NFL season ended Joe Flacco and his agent made a bold statement to the Ravens organization demanding for him to be paid top 5 QB money in the league. This comes despite everyone outside of the Flacco camp believing he is in that elite class of quarterbacks reserved for the top 5. Heck I wouldn’t even put in the top 10.

Don’t tell Joe that because he remains as confident as ever in pursuit of his new contract. This was extremely evident in his interview today with Sports Radio Interviews where he stated ”I think I’m the best.”

I don’t believe Flacco deep down inside he believe’s he is the best QB in the league. Otherwise why would he say I think, if he was that confident about the statement the word think would not be even considered. In the interview he explained why his thought process remains this way full of confidence:

“Without a doubt. What do you expect me to say? … I assume everybody thinks they’re a top-five quarterback. I mean, I think I’m the best. I don’t think I’m top five, I think I’m the best. I don’t think I’d be very successful at my job if I didn’t feel that way. I mean, c’mon? That’s not really too tough of a question. But that doesn’t mean that things are gonna work out that way. It just means that that’s the way it is, that’s the way I feel it is, and that’s the way I feel it should be.”

I think he hit the nail on the head by asking the question back that most should, what else do you expect me to believe? In order to be the best you need to have that mindset even if the results nor your own physical abilities equal that.

These comments are pretty much on par with exactly what Eli Manning said last year where he received a ton of criticism from the media and fans. I was one of those fans who said Manning was out of his mind and should have kept his mouth shut. I think it’s safe to say my lesson was learned after last year; so I will refrain from ripping Flacco because of that precedent; and the way he answered the question was not in a cocky manner.

Flacco is just being honest. At this point if you are a starting quarterback in the NFL I only expect the same answer from each and everyone of them when asked where they stack up in terms of their QB ranking in the league.
