Mo Williams considers retirement with no LeBron

Submitted by on Wednesday, 22 September 2010One Comment

Mo Williams has become the punch line of many jokes surrounding basketball news over the past 24 hours. And with good measure after Marcus Spears of Yahoo sports broke the news that he is now contemplating retirement.

Why?

Because his boy LeBron won’t be in the same back court as him this season.

When LeBron’s self loathing decision was made back in early July we knew it affected many people in the city of Cleveland. Predominantly the fans who had suffered for the previous 30+ years prior to LeBrons arrival knew they were going to back the old reality.

The players on the team knew their roles and careers were going to be effected. The Cavs no longer a 60+ win team to a team that will be lucky to challenge for a .500 record & playoff spot.

Some players would look at the situation as a challenge knowing they have a chance to be the man with LeBron gone. Others would go of and cry because they don’t have LeBron and realize he’s the only reason they were ever half decent in the NBA.

That is exactly what has happened with Mo Williams as he is starting to realize his chances of winning are pretty much done with the Cavs. And better yet his own personal play could take a dive. After all if it wasn’t for LeBron Williams would have never been considered or made the all star team in 2009.

But retire because LeBron left are you serious Mo? Come on, this has to be a joke or publicity stunt.

After all due to your stellar play that LeBron helped you achieve you still have three years remaining on the $26 million contract.

And if money isn’t your motivation, which it clearly isn’t otherwise you would have shut your mouth; there still remains multiple reasons to continue playing.

First off, you have a chance to be the go to guy, a leader… run your own franchise. And if Williams doesn’t believe he is capable of doing that which is understandable; he did have his chance in Milwaukee to do so prior to Cleveland. Why not try and challenge yourself to become better?

And if you can’t tolerate that tall task and it seems to unrealistic and the money doesn’t matter. There is one simple solution. Demand a trade or somehow get out of your contract and try getting dealt to the Miami Heat, then take on a league minimum contract.

Then you can play with your boy LeBron every day and never have to feel left out or have your feelings hurt.

Yeah okay I know it won’t happen. No way Gilbert would try to facilitate anything to help LeBron. But if Williams wanted it that bad he could sit out or demand to be cut and lose all his money then become a UFA and join LeBron in South Beach.

Bottom line is Mo Williams needs to suck it up and realize this is part of sports. Put your handkerchief away and work on your jump shot. It’s not like you were awful prior to being on the Cavs with LeBron, recording back to back 17 PPG seasons in Milwaukee.
