New Jersey Devils Invite Charlie Sheen to Game 5

Submitted by on Saturday, 9 June 2012No Comment

A bit of a scene occurred at Staples Center during game 4 of the Cup Finals as Charlie Sheen was denied access going back into the building by a security guard after smoking at period break due to the building’s policy. Thanks to blacksportsonline.com for being able to get the videos from TMZ posted. Check out what happened:

The New Jersey Devils happen to believe that Sheen was not treated fairly and that the Staples Center does not any common sense. Since you are allowed to smoke at the Prudential Center as indicated in the picture below the Devils have decided to invite Charlie Sheen to this evening’s game #5.

This is what the Devils Twitter account said: “We’ll treat you with courtesy and common sense, Come to the game tomorrow. We have great staff and a smoking balcony.”

Good for the Devils!!! This will only help them with positive publicity going out of their way to support a celebrity. Or is it??? Many people believe the Staples Center staff handled the situation correctly as it was quite clear Sheen did violate their rules and no exceptions should be made for celebrities.

While that line of thinking may be correct. I disagree with the rule in the first place. I understand society is all worked up about the smell of smoke and danger that it presents others from being near it and possibly inhaling it. Well here is a novel concept DO NOT go near it if you don’t like it. With all the space and area at an arena why does someone feel the need to be in that vicinity. If smoking is such an issue and such a health hazard to society then why is it legal in the first place? A paying customer should have every right to step outside and smoke a cigarette and reenter the game if they are behaving and not causing a problem.

It is just appalling that a rule like this is even put in place to begin with. Obviously the fine folks of New Jersey get it and allow such activity because as Sheen says they have some COMMON SENSE.
