Pittsburgh Penguins a first class organization: give away free tickets
Since Mario Lemiuex was drafted by the Penguins 1st overall in 1984 they have become one of the most successful and prominent franchises in the NHL. A dominating run that featured two cup victories in the ealry 90′s and now the current core group of players featuring the “next one” Sidney Crosby.
In between the Lemieux to Crosby ERA there was a dry spell for the franchise that saw them go into massive financial troubles. Pittsburgh isn’t exaclty a huge sports market and when the team struggeled on the ice it really impacted ticket sales and the team’s popularity.
But, since Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and Staal have been drafted they are back to their dominating ways and have to be considered Cup contenders every year. As good as the team is on the ice the front office deserves a ton of credit growing the Penguins brand and attratcing more young fans.
Another classy move was demonstrated by the organization today as they gave away free tickets to a pre season game, all for the sake of the future; eventhough they have sold out 160 games in a row.
